Taiwan -- Day 1 > Kaohsiung 15-Nov-2013

Woke up early for check-in and breakfast at Changi Airport Terminal 2 for our Taiwan trip.
This long anticipated trip kept us energised even at this early hour, so we couldn't help cam-whoring!
Good start to our trip, as the check-in staff of Tiger Air actually assigned us emergency exit seats. Which means more leg room! Hence, a comfortable 4.5hr flight to Taiwan. :)

Filled our stomach with a hearty breakfast at Wang Jiao.

Splendid view from our seats in the plane

Upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport, we took U-Bus 705 to Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station (HSR), and then took the HSR all the way to Kaohsiung ZuoYing Station, which took about 90mins. From ZuoYing HSR Station, we then shared a cab to our hotel, Legend Kaohsiung.

Tickets for the shuttle bus to Taoyuan HSR Station

Group shoot while waiting for the bus

Comfy bus ride. All passengers had to be seated. Once all the seats are taken up, the remaining passengers would have to wait for the next bus. Strictly no standing on board.

HSR Ticket. NT1410 from Taoyuan to Zuoying. Non-reserved seats. But we were lucky that many passengers alighted at the next few stops, so we manage to have a seat for our 90mins journey. :)

Very spacious seat and leg room, making the journey a very pleasant one.
You can eat and drink on the HSR, just clean up after eating.
They have an attendant making rounds to collect the trash you have.

Arrival at the Zuoying HSR Station

On our way to Legend Hotel

The exterior of our hotel looks very dreamy, we can't wait to see our rooms. But upon checking in, we got a shock. Booking.com did not extend another night for one of our rooms and our hotel are fully occupied for the next night. We decide to go up to our rooms first before deciding on what to do. Our rooms are very spacious and the bed provided are huge! We thought of sharing the room for the next night, but then we are going to have a tiring day tomorrow, so we decide to check for hotels nearby when we leave for dinner later. And also decide that me and jh will transfer hotel while Veron and Ben stay at Legend Hotel.

On our way to Liouhe Night Market

Liouhe Night Market is just a 8mins walk away from our hotel. While walking there, we caught sight of hotel name, Jia's Inn, and made a mental note to check out the rates and availability later.

Upon arrival at the night market, the smell of yummy foods greeted us. We couldn't wait to fill our stomach and waste no time (as proven in the below series of photos)! But atlas this night market now are filled with tourists from China, and as usual you can expect the unruly jostling from them and their loud voices booming right beside your ears! Nevertheless, the food is still as good as we can remember and we chomped down as much as we can.

Entrance of LiouHe Night Market

These are very similar to Soft Shell Crabs

Fried Squid

Managed to grab a table to savour our food

Closed-up of the fried crabs

盐酥鸡

BBQ Squids

Braised Pig Trotters (We did not try this)

Quill eggs with prawn. These are very yummy!

This is a stall selling clothes for dogs.
And these are the dogs on "duty" for the night!

Posing for a shot! woof!

Veron was tempted to try this but after that first bite, her comment was...

Veron: Looks good but don't taste as good! LOL

The servings of oysters inside are generous!
And they taste so sweet with freshness!

1st cup of bubble tea!

The ever famous papaya milk that I missed so much!
老郑木瓜牛乳

This is very delicious. The skin is like our roti prata but fried to a crisp.
And fillings are of lettuces and pork complete with their special sauce. Yum!

After stuffing ourselves with the good food, we decided to head over to 凯旋夜市 (KaiXuan Night Market). This night market was recommended by the cab driver who brought us to the hotel. He say it had just opened recently and many locals now preferred to patron that night market as compared to 六合夜市. He even provide us the directions to get over there. Alight at 凯旋station (R6 KaiSyuan) and there will be a free shuttle bus to bring you to the night market.

Map of Kaohsiung MRT

By walking till the end of 六合夜市, near 老郑木瓜牛奶,is the 美丽岛Station (R10 Formosa Boulevard), where we took the MRT to 凯旋station (R6 KaiSyuan). Upon reaching the main area of the Formosa Boulevard station, we were awed by the beautiful design!

This is the interior of the Farmosa Boulevard Station

Pianist in the station mesmerizing passengers with his music

凯旋夜市 is a lot bigger than 六合夜市. You can find mainly food, clothes and game stations in this night market. Food is fabulous and at the same time you get to shop to your heart's content. But for us, we are still attacking the street foods that thrills our nostrils from every corner!

Deep Fried Crickets!

Game Stations Everywhere

Ben trying his luck at the games... But did not win anything. :(

Braised Quails Eggs.
Loads of cholesterols here!

Braised food

Fooling around!

Braised food stall

BBQ Prawns. Fresh and Juicy

BBQ Beef. These skewers of beef are so tender and juicy that we
ordered another serving.

Fresh Oysters. Big, fat and juicy!

We managed to find a stall selling 1000cc drinks.
Good Deal! This is equivalent  to 4 cups of normal serving
but the price is that of a cup!

The layout of KaiXuan Night Market is so tidy, it made
shopping around it so comfortable.

We took a cab back to our hotel, made use of the wifi at lobby to check out Jia's Inn and went over to enquire for room availability. Lucky us! They still have 3 rooms left for the next night. We told them to keep a room for us, and we will bring over our luggage tomorrow morning before we start our itinerary. I wanted to pay a deposit to secure a room, but they were very nice, saying there's no need, they will reserve the room for us, we just need to pay the full amount the next day when we checked in. How nice!
And so we end our 1st day in Kaohsiung, exhausted, full to the brim and happy. Sweet dreams for all of us!

Taiwan -- Day 8 > Taipei 22-Nov-2013

Day 8, our last full day in Taiwan before we head for home tomorrow. Our itinerary today includes - Monga, Taipei 101 and Gongguan. Early morning we woke up and made our way to Long Shan Temple. This temple hosts a mixture of Buddhist, Taoist and folk deities such as Mazu, Goddess of Sea, and Guanyin, Buddhist Goddess of Mercy.  Take the MRT and alight at Longshan Temple Station, Exit 1. Upon coming out from Exit 1, you can see the temple across the street. Having Coffee at out hotel lobby while waiting for Veron and Ben. Couldn't resist getting this cute Chopper pouch.  View of temple upon exiting from the MRT station. Very beautiful man-made waterfall in the temple premises. After our temple visiting, we were all feeling very hungry and finally decide to settle our brunch at a shop selling rice and veggie. It actually like our Mixed Veggie rice, where rice or noodles is accompanied by side dishes which you get to choose from a wide v

Taiwan -- Day 4 > Cing Jing -> Puli 18-Nov-2013

We start today's itinerary at 4am today. By 3am we were up and getting ready to meet the tour group at 4am. Outside temperature was below 10 degree at that time and was freezing cold! What a relief that we have our own transport to the meeting point, if not we need to walk all the way out in the freezing and at that time there's no public transport operating yet. Our sleepy faces with hot drinks in hand to warm ourselves up.  Enlarge the pic and you will be able to see the stars in the sky! Waiting for the sun to rise and peek into a new day! The weather was so cold that we stayed in the bus most of the time. We only got down when it was almost time for the sun to rise.  Overall, 4 of us feel that the tour was worth the effort for waking up so early and bracing the cold weather without the appropriate wear. The view we had of the stars and the moment when the sun peek out from the horizon, the feeling was priceless. Its like you feel hope, warmth a

Taiwan -- Day 7 > JiuFen 21-Nov-2013

Today is our 1 day tour day. :) Out initial plans was to take a bus up to JiuFen from ZhongXiao Fuxing Station but atlas, upon reaching there, we found out that the bus no longer operated from there. A cab driver came over and offered us his tour services, which includes private transfer to Jiufen and also include sending us back to our hotel. (I'm sorry that I forgotten his price as I took too long to write this post, but I can remember its very reasonable). His services is very flexible too, as we have been to Keelung already so we decide to change it to drop us off at shihlin instead. And am glad to say that we truly enjoy his service and also the comfortable ride in his car. I truly recommend you to consider getting this kind of private tour if you have a minimum of 4 in your group. It saves time, and also the hassle of catching the public transport.
