Taiwan -- Day 5 > Puli -> Yehliu -> Keelung 19-Nov-2013

Day 5, and we decide to pamper ourselves by sleeping in a little bit more, as we have a long drive today. By 10am we had check-out from the guesthouse and to spend some time exploring Puli Town before moving up to Taipei.

We had wanted to try this restaurant named, 喷水餐厅, last night for dinner, but it was already closed for the day when we found it. But they have a must-try dish for me so today we decide to drop by again, for lunch!
Lucky day for us! It was open and we were the 1st customer, thus there's no long waiting time for us. We find this shop very humble, there wasn't any pictures of newspaper clippings displayed in their shop. There were only certificates of their chefs who received recognition as top renowned chefs in Taiwan. Only upon chatting with the friendly staffs do we know that they have a few TV stations coming to film their shops during the next few days. And if we were to drop by a few days later, we might not be able to taste their food, as they will be closing the shop for washing to prepare for filming. LUCKY LUCKY US!
Address-Puli Township, Chung Cheng Road, (439 ZhongZhen Road, Puli Town) 439

This Salted Egg Duck Meat (咸蛋鸭) is a MUST-TRY.
Its actually served cold, so I guess its more like a cold dish/appetizer.
Looking at this pic again makes me yearn for it!

Stir-fry Bamboo Shoots. (竹笋)

Wine Chicken (醉鸡)

Deep Fried Pig Trotters (绍兴炸猪蹄)

Seeing that the time was still early, we decide to roam about the town to find more tasty snacks. We arrive at the area where 85 degree cafe is, and saw that there are many other cutesy shops around it. We parked and did a bit of exploring, mainly on the snacks sold there.

Milk Pudding Desserts. (Original, Caramel & Lotus Seeds)

Ice Cream!

These little teddy bears custard buns are very tasty.
Many different fillings for you to choose from too!

Cute Teddy pinwheel above their signboard.

After all the satisfying snacking, we are on our way up to Yehliu. We plan to drive to Yehliu then up to Keelung, and end with Taipei where we can check in to our hotel for the next 4 nights.
Driving to Yehliu took us about 3 hours. Luckily we managed to make it before the closing time at 5pm. Yehliu is famous for its sea-erosion landscape and you can have a great view of the East China Sea.
Although Jh and me had been here numerous times, we wanted to share the magnificent scenery with Veron and Ben.

Queen's Head

The gorilla.

Can you spot the Fairy's Shoe behind us?

After touring the Yehliu Geopark, sky is beginning to get dark, as we made our way to the final stop of the day - Keelung MiaoKou Night Market (基隆庙口夜市)
It was only a 30mins drive to the night market. MiouKou Night Market has always been one of my favourite night market in Taiwan. Therefore, I want to share this food paradise with Veron and Ben too! As usual, the place is bustling with both tourists and locals. But we truly enjoy the hustling and jostling as we taste all the delicious food from each stalls.

Crab Chowder & Fragrance Glutinous Rice

Very crowded street!

This is a must try! Have a icy cold flavored shaved ice
while strolling down the streets of MiaoKou Night Market.

BBQ Squids! How can anyone resist this!
The seafood is so fresh and juicy.

See how much Veron is enjoying her food!

This taste like Kway Chap, but i forgot its name.

Pig's Blood Soup.

Stew Radish.

Oyster Omelette.

Fresh Oysters for the Omelette.

Healthy "Coffin" Sandwich.
This is also a MUST-TRY.

Jh couldn't resist getting another shaved-ice when we
once again passed by the stall.

Desserts Time!

Caramelized Tapioca.
We totally agree this is the best desserts we had in Taiwan so far!
(except for Ben, as he doesn't like sweet treats)

Seafood Time!
Steamed Clams (la la)

Butter Crabs.

Clams Soup.

Fried Vermicelli.
(This is very yummy that we ordered a 2nd plate! 1 is definitely not enough!)

After stuffing ourselves with all the delicious food, we finally arrived at our hotel for check-in at around 11pm. Hotel for the next 4 nights is at ECFA Chengdu. We booked ECFA as many other hotels at the same price range was already fully booked. As ECFA has many branches in Taipei itself, we went to the wrong branch (ECFA Wannian) for check-in and had an unpleasant encounter with the staff. They were very unfriendly and were annoyed when they can't find our booking and told us : There's isn't any booking under your name. FULLSTOP." We showed them our booking and then they tell us our hotel is not this branch. Luckily there was at least 1 friendly staff whom tell us the direction to our hotel.

Our hotel, ECFA Chengdu Road, was 5mins away from the Wannian branch and the staffs here were more friendly. If you ever want to book ECFA, I greatly recommend the Chengdu Road branch. ECFA Chengdu is located in the Ximending district therefore it is quite convenient with MRT, food and convenience store available within its surrounding.

'
I actually got a "Hello Kitty" theme room and heard
from the recep that this is a free upgrade.
But sadly, hello kitty is not really my fav cartoon.

Taiwan -- Day 1 > Kaohsiung 15-Nov-2013

Woke up early for check-in and breakfast at Changi Airport Terminal 2 for our Taiwan trip. This long anticipated trip kept us energised even at this early hour, so we couldn't help cam-whoring! Good start to our trip, as the check-in staff of Tiger Air actually assigned us emergency exit seats. Which means more leg room! Hence, a comfortable 4.5hr flight to Taiwan. :) Filled our stomach with a hearty breakfast at Wang Jiao. Splendid view from our seats in the plane Upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport , we took U-Bus 705 to Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station (HSR), and then took the HSR all the way to Kaohsiung ZuoYing Station, which took about 90mins. From ZuoYing HSR Station, we then shared a cab to our hotel, Legend Kaohsiung. Tickets for the shuttle bus to Taoyuan HSR Station Group shoot while waiting for the bus Comfy bus ride. Taiwan -- Day 8 > Taipei 22-Nov-2013

Day 8, our last full day in Taiwan before we head for home tomorrow. Our itinerary today includes - Monga, Taipei 101 and Gongguan. Early morning we woke up and made our way to Long Shan Temple. This temple hosts a mixture of Buddhist, Taoist and folk deities such as Mazu, Goddess of Sea, and Guanyin, Buddhist Goddess of Mercy.  Take the MRT and alight at Longshan Temple Station, Exit 1. Upon coming out from Exit 1, you can see the temple across the street. Having Coffee at out hotel lobby while waiting for Veron and Ben. Couldn't resist getting this cute Chopper pouch.  View of temple upon exiting from the MRT station. Very beautiful man-made waterfall in the temple premises. After our temple visiting, we were all feeling very hungry and finally decide to settle our brunch at a shop selling rice and veggie. It actually like our Mixed Veggie rice, where rice or noodles is accompanied by side dishes which you get to choose from a wide v

Taiwan -- Day 4 > Cing Jing -> Puli 18-Nov-2013

We start today's itinerary at 4am today. By 3am we were up and getting ready to meet the tour group at 4am. Outside temperature was below 10 degree at that time and was freezing cold! What a relief that we have our own transport to the meeting point, if not we need to walk all the way out in the freezing and at that time there's no public transport operating yet. Our sleepy faces with hot drinks in hand to warm ourselves up.  Enlarge the pic and you will be able to see the stars in the sky! Waiting for the sun to rise and peek into a new day! The weather was so cold that we stayed in the bus most of the time. We only got down when it was almost time for the sun to rise.  Overall, 4 of us feel that the tour was worth the effort for waking up so early and bracing the cold weather without the appropriate wear. The view we had of the stars and the moment when the sun peek out from the horizon, the feeling was priceless. Its like you feel hope, warmth a
