Taiwan -- Day 2 > Kaohsiung 16-Nov-2013

We arranged to meet at around 9am for breakfast before setting off for Cijin Island (旗津岛). Breakfast was included in our hotel booking and we find the spread of food is adequate. The food taste home-cooked and delicious. We all went for second helpings. :)
Décor of the dining room is again filled with hand painted pictures.

Breakfast!
One of the dish that I went for seconds is the Stir Fried Black Pepper Pork!

One of the many pictures drawn on the walls of the hotel.

Right after breakfast, Jh and me checked-out our room and went across the road to Jia's Inn to check in. Paid for our room, left our bags with concierge and set off to Cijin Island!

Walking to the MRT Station

Inside the MRT

Nearest station from our hotel is the City Council Station (Orange line 04, 市仪会站). From here, we went to SiZhiWan Station (Orange line 01, 西子湾站). Upon reaching, take Exit 1, and you will come across many people trying to sell you tour packages to Cijin Island.
We decide to rent a bike for the day from the shop just right across from the Station Exit 1. You get a bike for a whole day for only NT50, however you would need to leave some identification with them as a deposit.
From the shop, facing the station, cycle towards your right. Cycle right to the end of the street and you will see the harbour. Prepare loose change of NT15 per pax to board the ferry with your bike. I greatly recommend renting your bike right at the MRT station so that you need not walk to the harbour plus it is a great experience riding the ferry with your bike. :)
Me on board ferry with my bike!

Enjoy the view when riding the ferry.

Rest of the team with their bikes!
Upon alighting from the ferry, we decide to cycle towards the right. We will cycle round the island to complete our sightseeing. We are quite lucky that the island wasn't very crowded on a weekend (but we found out later in the day that it was because we are too early! Most tourists flock to this island in the late afternoon when we are making our way back). We had only cycled for less than 3 minutes, and we were mesmerised by the scenery and couldn't help alighting from or bikes and start clicking away our cameras!
Found this unique shop along the road

After taking so many pictures, we felt a need to fill our stomach. And so, I introduce them to the cold noodles from 7-11. This is something I miss badly too. And sometimes during year end you can't get this from the stores as it is not meant for cold weather.

Sugarless Green Tea and Taiwan Beer

We were enjoying our lunch comfortably with chairs
provided by the very kind aunty behind us.
She is selling stuffs by the roadside and offer us chairs when she
sees us preparing to settle there for lunch.

Sushi

After filling our stomach, we cycled through their residences to get to the Cijin Forts.
Weather was sunny and with the wind blowing through our hair, it was a enjoyable outing. Gives you a very carefree feeling. Below are the pictures we took while cycling and while hiking through the hill to Cijin Fort.

We just need to stop and take a pic here.
The houses look so dainty and nostalgic.
Looks like those places you see in a 60s drama.

Crazy with jump shots!

Have not even reach the top of the hill and you already get a very scenic view.

View from top of hill. breath-taking!

After cycling through the star tunnel, you find a view of where the sea meets the sky. The view is stunningly beautiful. You can just stare at the sea view for hours. And with the soothing sea breeze teasing your hair, you cannot help but feel so relaxed.

Look at the sea behind us. You cannot see what lies beyond it.

Almost reaching a full circle of the island, you will pass by a street lined full with restaurant selling seafood. And you definitely do not want to miss having a meal here! After reading all the reviews on the seafood here, we cannot wait to try it! So we just popped into one restaurant and feasted!

Fish Roe Salad (MUST TRY!)

Boiled Prawns

Stir Fried Kang Kong

Clams (MUST TRY!)

烤鱼下巴

We ended our tour with CIjin at around 3pm and return to our hotel to wash up and prepare for our night out. Upon reaching mainland, we saw a long queue for the ship bounding for Cijin. This further confirm our choice to explore in the morning is right! As most people and tour groups prefer to visit Cijin in the late afternoon when the sun is going to set soon and the weather would not be so hot. :)

Another excitement awaits us when we retun to our hotel, as we had just switched hotel and can't wait to check out the interior of the room!
And I'm so glad it did not disappoint us. The small is much smaller compare to Legend but it is as clean. The design here looks more modern and is painted with funky drawings. But overall it still gives us a cozy feel and we feel comfortable with it.
Definitely worth staying here if you are coming to Kaohsiung.

After 30mins of rest, we set off for Xin Jue Jiang for shopping! And of course food...

猪血糕

葱油饼

This stall serves one of the yummiest "Burger".

Close-up of the "Burger". The bun is actually plain Chinese bun and
they filled it up with beef, cheese and pickled veggies. Very unique taste with
different flavours bursting in your mouth with every bite you take.

Playing around with One Piece's Luffy straw hat found in the shop.

After shopping, we decide to try out another night market - RuiFeng Night Market. Take the MRT and alight at Kaohsiung Arena Station (巨蛋站). RuiFeng Night Market did not disappoint us. It is very crowded here but the stalls are very neatly lined up making shopping very comfortable. We had a successful shopping here with each and every one of us having bought something. And of course the food here is fantastic!

This stall is not to be missed! It served very juicy fried squid.
We ordered twice and both were big portion.
You cannot stop chewing on it once you have your first bite!

We ended with very late dinner and we are famished.
This western choice was not to be regretted as the portion is quite big.
The friendly boss even offered us second helpings for the pasta!

Before we say goodbye to Kaohsiung, we made a trip back to Liouhe Night Market to get another fill of the Papaya Milk drink. Feeling satisfied, we all had sweet dreams back at the hotel and feeling excited of what lies ahead tomorrow... :)

Taiwan -- Day 1 > Kaohsiung 15-Nov-2013

Woke up early for check-in and breakfast at Changi Airport Terminal 2 for our Taiwan trip. This long anticipated trip kept us energised even at this early hour, so we couldn't help cam-whoring! Good start to our trip, as the check-in staff of Tiger Air actually assigned us emergency exit seats. Which means more leg room! Hence, a comfortable 4.5hr flight to Taiwan. :) Filled our stomach with a hearty breakfast at Wang Jiao. Splendid view from our seats in the plane Upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport , we took U-Bus 705 to Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station (HSR), and then took the HSR all the way to Kaohsiung ZuoYing Station, which took about 90mins. From ZuoYing HSR Station, we then shared a cab to our hotel, Legend Kaohsiung. Tickets for the shuttle bus to Taoyuan HSR Station Group shoot while waiting for the bus Comfy bus ride. All passengers had to be seated. Once all the seats are taken up, the remaining passengers

Taiwan -- Day 8 > Taipei 22-Nov-2013

Day 8, our last full day in Taiwan before we head for home tomorrow. Our itinerary today includes - Monga, Taipei 101 and Gongguan. Early morning we woke up and made our way to Long Shan Temple. This temple hosts a mixture of Buddhist, Taoist and folk deities such as Mazu, Goddess of Sea, and Guanyin, Buddhist Goddess of Mercy.  Take the MRT and alight at Longshan Temple Station, Exit 1. Upon coming out from Exit 1, you can see the temple across the street. Having Coffee at out hotel lobby while waiting for Veron and Ben. Couldn't resist getting this cute Chopper pouch.  View of temple upon exiting from the MRT station. Very beautiful man-made waterfall in the temple premises. After our temple visiting, we were all feeling very hungry and finally decide to settle our brunch at a shop selling rice and veggie. It actually like our Mixed Veggie rice, where rice or noodles is accompanied by side dishes which you get to choose from a wide v

Taiwan -- Day 4 > Cing Jing -> Puli 18-Nov-2013

We start today's itinerary at 4am today. By 3am we were up and getting ready to meet the tour group at 4am. Outside temperature was below 10 degree at that time and was freezing cold! What a relief that we have our own transport to the meeting point, if not we need to walk all the way out in the freezing and at that time there's no public transport operating yet. Our sleepy faces with hot drinks in hand to warm ourselves up.  Enlarge the pic and you will be able to see the stars in the sky! Waiting for the sun to rise and peek into a new day! The weather was so cold that we stayed in the bus most of the time. We only got down when it was almost time for the sun to rise.  Overall, 4 of us feel that the tour was worth the effort for waking up so early and bracing the cold weather without the appropriate wear. The view we had of the stars and the moment when the sun peek out from the horizon, the feeling was priceless. Its like you feel hope, warmth a
